Our Impact

At De Marillac Academy, we believe that another world is possible, and our students and graduates are a fundamental force for building it.

Established in 2001, De Marillac Academy provides a tuition-free education that focuses on academic excellence in a values-based environment. Co-sponsored by the Daughters of Charity and De La Salle Christian Brothers, De Marillac offers a Catholic, private school education to low-income students from all faith and cultural backgrounds in the Tenderloin and other similar neighborhoods.

De Marillac’s educational model is rooted in the Nativity Miguel school movement, which began in New York City over 40 years ago. The NativityMiguel Coalition (NMC) is an alliance of fifty nonpublic schools serving students from pre-k through twelfth grade in the U.S. and Canada that work together to bring equity to all students through education. Nativity Miguel schools offer an extended day, extended year academic program, expert teaching staff, numerous athletic and extra-curricular opportunities, and graduate support programs to ensure the success of students and their families. In 2001, De Marillac opened with a class of nineteen sixth graders. Today, De Marillac Academy serves 106 fourth through eighth-grade students, 418 alumni, and 364 families in our school and our unique wrap-around clinical and family support program.
