A Message from our President Regarding COVID-19

Dear DMA Friends,

I hope you are all well, safe and in good health. I write today to share a brief update as well as some news from our students and DMA community that we hope will bring a smile to your face.

Friday was the end of our first week of Distance Learning. I must share my utmost admiration and appreciation for the educators of De Marillac Academy. Their ability to remain flexible and the spirit that they have entered our current reality is truly inspiring. Our personalized learning model and integration of technology into the classroom permitted our faculty and staff to make this sudden transition to distance learning. As an organization, we continue to walk shoulder to shoulder with our students and families in this new way of learning. We believe the stability and routine that we are creating is positive for our students and families. We will continue to assess what is working and where changes are needed, as well as keep lines of communication open with all the groups in our community: students, graduates, families and staff.

The impact of the shelter-in-place has been far reaching. As a school, we must tend to the social-emotional needs of our students as well as the academic needs. In addition to providing remote counseling and virtual class meetings to ease feelings of stress and anxiety, De Marillac is assessing the ways we can support our families. We know that the strength of our community will get us through this challenging time.

We are grateful for your support and partnership, which has laid the foundation for the work we do at De Marillac Academy.

Please be safe, and stay healthy.

In gratitude,

Theresa Flynn Houghton
President
