September 2024 DMA Family Newsletter
September Edition, 2024-2025 School Year
"You must not doubt that it is a great gift of God,
this grace he has given you
to be entrusted with the instruction of children,
to announce the Gospel to them
and to bring them up in the spirit of religion."
- St. John Baptist de la Salle.

Dear De Marillac Academy Families, Students, and Friends,

Thank you for making Back to School Night a success! We had over 96% family participation in the event. Families shared how excited they are for their students and are looking forward to a great year. I want to thank the team who contributed to the success of Back to School Night. Thank you to Ms. Ramirez and Ms. Quintero for setting up the tables. Thank you to our translators, Ms. Ramirez and Teacher Lemon. Thank you to those who set up tables: Mr. Espinoza, Ms. Alonzo, Ms. Rebecca, Mr. Vincent, Ms. Annie, Sr. Marilu, Sr. Ava, TLCBD, and Boys and Girls Club.  Thank you to Ms. Leberman and Ms. Madar for watching students. Thank you to all the presenters: Ms. Osborne, Ms. Edna, Ms. Sanchez, Mr. Lime, Ms. Annie, Ms. Alicia, Ms. Fernandez, Ms. Skiles, Mr. Ortiz, Ms. Leon, and Mr. Martinez.  Thank you to Ms. Flynn-Houghton for the welcome speech. Of course, thank you, families, for being present. We Walk Together in support of all students.

September's Lasallian/Vincentian theme is "Respect for All Persons." The school community will focus on the following ideas:
  • Respect for all persons means valuing everyone equally.
  • It involves treating others with kindness and fairness.
  • How does this value promote a positive and inclusive community?
  • How do you show respect to your classmates?

I look forward to the month of September. Thank you for taking the time to read through the newsletter. Live Jesus in Our Hearts, Forever!

Your Servant in Christ,

Jojo de Guzman

Family Meetings

Family Meetings are designed for support families in their own growth and development. In years prior we have covered topics that address, child safety, mental health, child development and more. In collaboration with our Student, Family & Graduate Support Program, we want to continue to provide families with the space for them to grow in their own learning as the primary educators in their students lives.

Family meetings are mandatory for all grade levels, at least one member per household should be in attendance. If a family is unable to attend, it is the responsibility of the family to inform the Family Partnership Coordinator or SSC Coordinator 24 hours in advance. Failure to communicate accordantly  will result in fees:

  • 25.00 (First Meeting Missed)
  • 50.00 (Second Meeting Missed)
  • 75.00 (Third Meeting Missed)
  • Continuous missed meetings may result in dismissal from DMA

For the month of September families have the option to attend either of the two scheduled dates.

Date: September 19th
Time: 4:30 pm

Date: September 26th
Time: 4:30 pm

DMA Family Council

To develop leadership for our parent community, De Marillac Academy has established a Family Council which meets monthly. This group size ranges from 8-12 families. In addition to attending the standard monthly meetings, they also advise our principal and director of student and family services during regular meetings. The Family Council acts as a voice for the larger family community and offers recommendations to the school administration.

Our first Family Council meeting will be September 9th at 3:00 pm.
